Nick Kyrgios was last week fined more than £13,000 (AU$23,200) for simulating a sex act with a water bottle on camera at Queen’s Club tennis.

The Australian, ranked 19th in the world, was caught on camera performing a simulation of a lewd act in his semi-final loss to Marin Cilic and was subsequently sanctioned by the ATP for ‘inappropriate behaviour’.

This is far from Kyrgios’s first infraction or fine. He was fined £7,573 (AU$13,500) at the end of 2017 for quitting a Shanghai Masters match, and at the start of 2018 had to pay £2,000 (AU$3,700) for unsportsmanlike behaviour when he told a fan at the Australia Open to ‘shut the f*** up’.

Last year in an interview, Kyrgios revealed how much he dislikes long trips between tournaments.

‘Some days it’s fun to play but sometimes I’d rather be doing something else. When I’m on the road there are times when I find the motivation tough. I don’t like the long trips, I dread them. I hate the travelling.’

‘I played eighteen tournaments and I probably tanked eight of them, but I’m still ranked in the top twenty,’ he added.

The Australian no.1 revealed his Wimbledon 2018 ambitions, saying he hoped to progress to the second week.

‘I’m looking forward to it,’ he said. ‘Last year I was injured, didn’t perform well. It’s one of my favourite tournaments and I’d like to do much better than last year. I feel very confident,’ he said ahead of the tournament.

Who is Nick Kyrgios?

Nick Kyrgios is a tennis player currently ranked 19th in the world and No.1 in Australia.

He was born in Canberra on April 27, 1995 to Greek father Giorgos and Malaysian mother Norlaila, who is a member of the Selangor royal family and a computer engineer.

However, she dropped the princess title when she moved to Australia in her twenties.

Kyrgios started playing tennis at the age of seven and his parents would travel across the country staying in caravan parks when he played junior tournaments.

‘He was a chubby little boy but always very strong and competitive. We knew that he would lose his puppy fat eventually because that was what happened with his older brother,’ his mother said

‘He was also lucky in that there was a very strong group of boys his age in Canberra, and they all pushed each other. Quite a few went on to win tennis scholarships to colleges in the United States.’

Kyrgios quickly began making his mark on Australian tennis, winning a national title by the age of 12.

In 2013, he won the junior Australian Open title and was the ranked the ITF world no.1 junior.

That summer he won the Wimbledon 2013 boys doubles title with Thanasi Kokkinakis.

‘The tournament for me was a disaster. The couple of weeks leading up, I wasn’t in good physical shape. I was in a tough mental space and I wasn’t able to prepare the way I wanted to.

‘Then I thought about the position Alja was in. I’ve seen her when she was in a sling, just after surgery, not being able to hit and the dark place she was in. It put a bit of perspective into my life. Seeing her more often is helping my headspace.’
