He was born on August 16, 1928 in Istanbul. While in high school she worked in every part of filmmaking in film studios and she continued her education in Muhsin Ertuğrul Theater; because he wanted to be a director or playwright.
In 1950, he started working as a journalist at Yeni İstanbul Newspaper and at the same time attended the Faculty of Economics at Istanbul University.
In 1958, he worked as photojournalist for Time-Life, Paris-Match and Der Stern. In 1954, he started working as a photography department chief at Hayat Magazine.
In 1953 he met Henri Cartier Bresson and joined the Paris Magnum Agency, and in England published dı Photography Annual Antalojisi Ajans described him as one of the top 7 photographers in the world. The same year, he was accepted as the only Turkish member of the ASMP (American Society of Magazine Photographers).
In 1962, he was awarded the title of “Master of Leica” for very few photographers in Germany. In Camera magazine in Switzerland, he devoted a special number. In 1964, his photographs were used in Mariana Noris’ book “Young Turkey” published in the US. In the exhibition titled “The Perspectives on the World of People” opened in Canada in 1967, the exhibition titled “Ten Masters of Color Photography” held at the New York Modern Art Gallery in 1968; In the same year his work was exhibited in Germany at the Photokina Fair in Cologne. In 1976, his photo album titled “Türkei” was published in Germany. His photographs of art and art history were used by the Time-Life, Horizon and Nesweek book chapters in the United States and Skira Publishing House in Switzerland.
He also made a photo-interview with Picasso for the book “Picasso Metamorphose et unite” published by Skira publishing house for Picasso’s 90th birthday. In 1972 he opened an exhibition at the National Library in Paris. In 1975, he was invited to the United States and after taking photographs of many famous Americans, he exhibited his exhibition titled “Creative Americans” in many cities around the world. Yet the subject field of the same year removed armored “The Last Hero” Turkey’s Journalists Association in çekti.1979 a documentary film called “Photojournalism” took first prize in the branch.
In 1980, some of his photographs were published in his book titled “Photos” published by Karacan Publishing. He photographed the book “Mimar Sinan” by Abdullah Kuran. The same book was published in 1987 by the “Institute of Turkish Studies”. In 1989, the book “Ara Güler’s Filmmakers” was published.
In 1991, he photographed “The Sixth Continent” by the Fisherman of Halicarnassus (Cevat Sakir Kabaagac) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the meantime, he made the photo interviews of the whole world and announced them to the world with Magnum Agency. interviewed people and took photos. The most famous of the photographers posed to the Picasso interview. Photographs of the works of Mimar Sinan, which he worked on for many years, in 1992, in France, the USA and England, published a book titled “Sinan, Architect of Soliman the Magnificent”. In the same year his book “Living in Turkey” was published as “Turkish Style” in England, USA and Singapore and in France as “Demeures Ottomanes de Turquie”. “Passed Colors,” and “Earth on Their Faces” were published in photo books. Ara Güler’s photographs are available at the National Library of Paris, at the Georg Eastman Museum in Rochester, USA, at the Sheldon Collection of the University of Nebraska. The photographs of the Das Imaginare Photo Museum at the Mueseum Ludwing in Cologne are on display.
