Unfortunately I have decided to withdraw from the Italian Olympic team due to family reasons. I am very disappointed to miss out on golf's return to the Olympics however, I am confident that Matteo will do a fantastic job in my place.
World No. 15 Francesco Molinari finished off a blemish-free weekend as he carded a bogey-free, 2-under-par 36-33=69 during round four of The 147th Open to secure his first win in a major championship, ending the week on 8-under 276 to beat Xander Schauffele by two strokes.

The Italian is known for his fairways-and-greens style of play but he split just 26-of-60 fairways on the week. Perhaps that was strategic in order to avoid as many of the 112 bunkers as possible, still finding 66.7% of his greens in regulation this week. After Saturday’s round he spoke of the Sunday conditions and said “It’s not a day to be aggressive. It’s more a day to make as many pars as possible.” That’s exactly what Molinari did as he started his round with 13 straight pars while playing alongside Tiger Woods, before circling birdies at 14 and 18, capitalizing on the chances when they arose. The 35-year-old entered the week with the best form of anyone in the world over the past few months (WIN-2-T25-WIN-T2 over his last five worldwide starts). Recently becoming a PGA TOUR winner for the first time, he is now a major champion and the Champion Golfer of the Year
